FOOD PANTRY NEWS

The food pantry ministry has been a busy place this fall. Our numbers of families served has been increasing significantly. We serviced 159 different families in September (663 total visits) and 350 families in October (857 total visits). We have a lot of families in the area struggling to make ends meet. Special thanks go out to all our contributors. Individual monetary contributions, those who supplied food for our Christmas bags project, and those who gifted memorials in honor of someone’s life all made a positive impact for our cause. We also received nice donations from the Elks Club, The DAV, and the Justin Coressel Fund. Thank you to our many volunteers. The operation of the pantry could not happen without your help. The food pantry committee and volunteers continue to work to efficiently manage our resources and work to be the hands and feet of Jesus in an effort to support these families in need.

We are always ready to accept additional volunteers. The pantry is always in need of the following items: canned meat and tuna, peanut butter, canned fruit, cereal, dish soap, laundry soap, and toilet paper.

“AWAY IN A MANGER, NO CRIB FOR A BED”

The Defiance County Furniture Bank would like to offer a suggestion for your gift giving Christmas. If you, your family, or your co-workers are looking for an alternative to a gift exchange, please consider reaching out to those in need. In partnership with Ken’s Furniture, a queen mattress set can be purchased for $240, a full size set for $225, and a twin set for $175. If interested in purchasing a mattress set, or making a monetary contribution of any amount, you can use the designated envelope in your offertory envelopes or drop off at the Parish Ministry Center. These mattresses will greatly help persons to whom we minister through our Furniture Bank. Checks can be made to Defiance County Furniture Bank. Thank you for your kindness.

Sharing Bread will be on December 2nd.

GIVING TREE

The trees will be located in the annex and back of the church to retrieve a tag. Please return the wrapped gifts to the Parish Office not under the trees in the annex and church, thank you so much for your kindness this Christmas Season to those in need.

FOOD PANTRY CHRISTMAS BAGS

Our goal is to provide items that we ordinarily don’t give out to the families who come to the food pantry. Hopefully, these items will help with their Christmas Celebration. This year we are asking for the following items.

Ham – 1 lb canned or larger frozen hams or frozen turkey

Gravy – Jars, cans, or mixes

Cake or Brownie Mix

Icing

Mashed Potatoes

Stuffing Mix

Due to the generosity of donations through the food bank and others, we have been able to obtain some of the items that we will be putting in our Christmas bags. These items include – Sweet Potatoes, Cranberry Sauce, Jiffy Mix, and Cookies.

Thank you for your support in helping to make Christmas a little brighter for families in need. We will begin accepting items beginning November 3 and continue to take items until December 19. We will hand out items to clients during December.
